American Body Armor American Body Armor is one of the leading manufactures of body armor and raid vests. American Body Armor is worn by many police officers and considered as some of the most important police gear and police equipment. America Body Armor is worth buying. American Body Armor is based out of Jacksonville, Florida and is part of the BAE Systems Products Group. BAE Systems Products group is the 3'rd largest global defense company. With over 97,000 employees, there is no doubt as to why they produce some of the finest quality law enforcement gear ranging from duty belt gear to body armor. A lot has changed in the world of body armor. Body armor was first introduced in World War II and was referred as Flak Jackets. Flak Jackets did not protect the solider from anything except for small arms munitions fragments. Seeing a need for change, Kevlar was introduced in the 1960's and became the main material in body armor for some time. Since the early days of American Body Armor when their vests were mainly constructed of Kevlar, American Body Armor has taken great strides in improving the technology of their ballistic vests. Currently, American Body Armor is on the cutting edge of technology and using a hybrid engineering approach in the manufacture of their body armor. American Body Armor's hybrid approach consists of using woven materials and laminate materials together. The woven material that is used in the body armor, has stood up over time and is one of the most proven and effective material known to science. The laminate materials are the key materials in the stopping power. With the combination of woven materials and laminate materials, American Body Armor is able to produce some of the strongest, lightest, thinnest, and most comfortable body armor available to law enforcement officers. Currently, American Body Armor offers a few choices in body armor. Their newest addition to the product line is the XTREME FORCE. The XTREME FORCE has a 20% greater stopping power than the earlier vests. This added stopping power is the result of the combination of the Spectra Shield II, Twaron, and Microlaminate Twaron materials. These materials produce a vest that is very durable, yet lightweight and flexible causing it to be more comfortable. The vest is currently offered in a level II with a level III coming out soon. The level II XTREME FORCE vest is only .247 inches thick. A very common ballistic vest among law enforcement officers is the XTREME HP by American Body Armor. The XTREME HP is constructed from the materials Dyneema, Goldflex, and Twaron. The combination of these three materials results in a lightweight, flexible, and durable product that saves lives. The XTREME HP is offered in a level II and level IIIA resistance. At a mere .16 inches thick on the level II and .20 inches thick on the level IIIA vest, this vest is one the most comfortable vests available. American Body Armor believes that it is very important when purchasing a ballistic vest that you know which level of threat resistance is the best for you. One of the biggest threats to an officer is his or her own weapon. It is important that an officer wears a ballistic vest that can protect them from their own weapon should they even be put in that situation. A quick guideline to the threat resistant levels are the following: Level IIA- Protects against 9mm FMJ and .40 S&W caliber FMJ American Body Armor believes that if the ballistic vest doesn't fit you properly then there is no reason to wear it. That is why they offer custom sizing of their vests so that no critical areas of your body are exposed. They even take their belief one step further and guarantee you will be satisfied with the fit of your vest for up to 30 days after purchase. If it doesn't fit right, just return it and they will fix the problem. American Body Armor understands the tough job that law enforcement officers have and encourage all of them to wear their body armor. American Body Armor has started a program called "Legion of Life" in which they will replace at no charge a new ballistic vest to any officer that has survived a shooting and also make a donation to the National Law Enforcement Memorial fund. To date, over 500 vests have been replaced. American Body Armor is proud of the fact that their products have saved that many officers' lives. So, no matter what threat resistance level of ballistic vest you are looking for, American Body Armor has one that will be a perfect fit on your body while providing you with the most protection.
